Bivalve from KT Boundary phosphate deposits in central Jordan
David Cothran posted a topic in Fossil ID
Can anyone help me with ID of this bivalve from central Jordan? From commercial deposits of phosphorites that span the KT Boundary. Occurs in very dense masses of thousands of individuals. Neighboring specimens seem to have been appressed in life. My hand is the only scale I have available, but should give an idea. Thanks for any help! Please see comment below for images. -
Hello, next week I will be traveling to Jordan. I read that Jordan is rich in fossils and I would like to buy some of them for my collection. I'm afraid I'll have problems at the airport. Can you tell me if exporting some small fossils from Jordan is legal? I searched and read the institutional websites, but I did not find any bans, but I am not sure I investigated well. Thank you very much to those who will be able to answer me!

I recently received some fossils and three were from Jordan. Schizorhiza stromeri is a saw shark that lived during the Cretaceous, although most of the root is missing, this rostral tooth is still some 8 mm in size.

A number of years ago I was working in Jordan and not far outside Petra we stopped for a coffee by a little roadside stall. Not far away I noticed a kid selling various rocks on an upturned cardboard box. He looked dirt poor so to help him out I bought a number of different shapes and sizes just so he could make a sale. It wasn't until later on I noticed one of the rocks had what looks to be small Gastropods in the rock. Can anyone confirm these are Turritella? Thanks Paul

I have been finding many of these little fossils lately. I found three of them this morning, as a matter of fact. I believe them to be sea urchins, but obviously I'm not sure. I have also found ammonites and bivalve fossils in this area so other marine fossils would make sense to be on the surface in my mind. I placed an iPod into the photo for size reference; it was the only common item at the time of the photo. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
