Newbe looking for kid-friendly fossil hunting sites near Boston
EllaS posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Hi all I'm an old-time fossil fan new to the US. I've had my share of luck hunting fossils in Israel (ammonites, shells etc), and am now based in Boston with kids who have a good eye and need to learn to search. Can anyone recommend a good, legal fossil hunting site in the area (up to ~2 hour ride)? I'd be most keen for trilobites, since there are none to be found in Israel, but would welcome anything that's kid-friendly (i.e. strolling/sifting rather than shale digging). Thanks! Ella- 4 replies

Fossil hunting destinations with kids between Lincoln, NE to Crested Butte, CO?
strahanjen posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
We're taking a family road trip in mid-June driving from Lincoln, NE to Crested Butte, CO. Our 11 year old wants to go fossil digging along the way. We don't have any fossil hunting experience, so would love to find a guide who can take us out for a few 1/2 day excursions. Does anyone know if there are any places along our route that would fit the bill? We can either take a northern route along I-80 to I-76 toward Denver or a southern route via I-80 and then go south to I-70 towards Colorado Springs. The image shows the two possible routes. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks, Jennifer
