Brookie13 posted a topic in Fossil IDHi Everyone, I found an interesting large bone fragment in the Brazos River, outside of Harris County, Texas. The fragment has a thick sidewall, so I am guessing it is from a large mammal, possibly mammoth. The thing that I can't wrap my head around is the odd pocket-like texture exhibited on one side of the bone. Could these odd pockets help in the identification of this fossil? Also, I have attached a picture of 2 antlers from the Brazos. They both look like they are whitetail deer antlers to me. One is much larger than the other, possibly due to age and nutrition of the animal? Thanks for checking them out.
I found these today a foot apart, definitely bone. My laptop camera is all I have working at the moment. No recent breaks and the don't fit each other, I guesstimate the larger one weighs 10 pounds. I plan to return tomorrow, being found so close together is encouraging. Not found in the river but in flood ponds near the river.
ManFromSweden94 posted a topic in Fossil IDHi! What kind of animal is this? I thought it was from a human long ago or maybe a moose / cow. What kind of animal is this from? As we can see it's a spine with remaining pieces and the rib Cage or the back bones? / ManFromSweden94
