I came into a rock and mineral shop in Northern California and looked around. I saw this on display and bought a few pieces. Is this actually petrified wood struck by lightning? Does anybody know the provenance of this fossil (it wasn't specified). Thanks.

Howdy yall yet another great day on peace river. How blessed we are to live in this part of the world. Well, i started my day at Publix, then headed out to the grounds. I ended up finding a couple mystery pieces today, a bunch of sharks teeth, some turtle shell and what i think is a gator jaw bone. The day was cut somewhat short by a nasty little thunder storm. Was also approached by about an 8' gator, he didnt think i looked tasty apparently and moved on lol.

Hi All, Yesterday I had the opportunity to go fulgarite hunting. For those who are not familiar with the term, a fulgarite forms as the result of a lightning strike on quartz sand. I'm sure that some in this group will contend that a fulgarite is not a fossil but others consider it as evidence of a lightning strike. The only problem is that it is very difficult to date a fulgarite. Anyway, check out my photo below and I hope that you like what you see.
