I found this today on a beach. It's magnetic but seems to have minerals in it. Possibly a meteorite or iron rock? No idea.

Hello! I was just sifting through some old stuff and found a peculiar rock that I had discovered when I was a child in a stream somewhere in Massachusetts. I was wondering if this resembles a meteorite? I attached some pics if those might be of help. It's quite a heavy stone, maybe a pound or more. I'm interested to hear what you all think whether real or not!

Found this along a long abandoned RR outside Altoona PA (USA). A rather plain side was showing and I whacked it with my hammer expecting to shatter a large piece of glass slag. I was rewarded with a metallic ring and tingling hand. Its very dense, magnetic, and has three obvious planes (cleavage? Crystal growth?) Some of the flat surfaces shine black-iridescent, others gold-iridescent. It's too hard to scratch with my finger nail (I haven't done further Mohs testing yet). Its not hematite because the streak is dark grey to black. I'm pretty sure the rock fell off a rail car, but this track hasn't been used since probably 1900. The USGS Atlas 86 (1989) lists iron lead and zinc as historically worked ores in the area; but the descriptions don't sound like this. But then its along the RR so could be from far away. Is there a site like this but for minerals?

Hi Guys, I find a fair amount of these rocks/conceptions in one of the streams I hunt in. They are very dense and appear as if they are melted. I took some home and found they are magnetic. Any name for these? Thanks, John

I found this while digging at a placer in south west Montana. It does react just a little bit to a neodymium magnet. It is slightly larger than a grape fruit and around 3.5lbs so a bit heavy for its size.

I told myself years ago I wouldn't ever be the guy who finds a rocks and thinks it's a Meteorite but hey, life has its disappointments and here I am! I found this in Burlington County, New Jersey. It is very magnetic and also passes the streak test so I have to ask - any chance this is a Meteorite??

On a recent dig, we found these rocks that all share magnetic properties, and for the life of me, I can't identify them. I'm the fossil ID guy on our team, and my geologist is currently on holiday in Europe, and I'm just not patient. haha! What do you think? Here are a few pictures of the rocks in question.

While rockhounding in the area of the Niagara Penninsula, I found an odd-shaped piece of metal about 5 inches beneath very thick, wet mud. The place in which I found the object was in a very shallow stream, which ran over sedimentary rock of the pre-Cambrian shield. After a closer inspection at home, I believe I may have found an iron-mineralized piece of a petrified wood, intertwined with two separate vines. A friend suggested it may be a rusty drill bit although I have doubts based on the location it was found. It is 3 1/2" long and 3/4" wide. It is heavy and seems hard like a metal. It is somewhat magnetic. It appears mostly brown, with spots of orange, and some light brown mud residue. I am assuming the vibrant orange colour is rust although there are also pale-orange spots which resemble the interior of a stick. Before cleaning the specimen, I would appreciate any opinions/advice. I am only able to attach two photos, but I will upload the rest in the response section. Any help is much appreciated!

I found this metal detecting/fossil hunting. My metal detector picked it up buried about 4" in a field in south central Kansas. I've never seen a meteorite, so I don't know if this is one. It is magnetic.

What makes Merrit Island Microsfossils attracted to a magnet?

I have just noticed that many of the larger microfossils I have found are noticeably attracted to a strong neodymium magnet. What has occurred in fossilization for this to happen? -
It's slightly magnetic. I found it near Neosho river in Kansas. Someone on Reddit said that it may be a meteorite but my eyes are untrained.
