I Finished My First Restoration Job. I Need To Dull My Paint........how?
fossilized6s posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
With the help of my fellow TFF members i bought some Magic Sculpt to restore my Mazon fern. It worked out pretty well. I appreciate all of your help guys. My only problem is getting a dull finish on my paint. Does anyone have any techniques they implement for this application? I've tried a flour wash, but nothin'..... I highly recommend Magic Sculpt. It's a bit sticky, but easy enough to work with. And not to toot my own horn, i think for being colourblind i matched the paint decently (well in my eyes). Haha! Alethopteris sullivanti Measurements: 4 7/8" Step #1. Find fossil Step #2. Apply and form Magic Sculpt accordingly Step #3. Paint Thanks for looking! Happy New Year TFF.- 20 replies

Just thought I would post a picture of the Mazon Creek Ferns my wife gave me for Christmas this morning! First fossils in my collection that were purchased! She purchased them, I have yet to buy a fossil. Heck, before I added the great pieces that Chele sent me, everything had been found by me! She picked them up at a shop here in KCMo that her Dad used to go to when he was alive and doing lapidary work! Special stuff, not only because of where she got them but because she has taken an interest in this obsession of mine and we enjoy it together! Okay well, here goes... Thanks for looking! pic1 pic2 Oh, the fish she got at the same shop but the gentleman there had no information on it. (location, age, species) As his main business is lapidary, he was not able to ID it. I will research it furthur this evening when we get back home but any input would be appreciated! It's off to the folks house for some Xmas dinner!
