A rangeomorph holdfast trace fossil from the Ediacara formation, Rawnsley quartzite of the Flinders Range, South Australia. This specimen is Medusina mawsoni, so called because it was until recently thought to be a jellyfish, but is now believed to be the attachment point of a fractal rangeomorph as Charniodiscus is the point of anchorage for Charnia sp. This one may have been the holdfast point for some species of Rangea. The diameter of the outer circle is 1.5 cm and the fossil is estimated to be 555 million years old.

From the album: Nautiloid’s Trilobite Collection
This bug comes from the Upper Ordovician McKay Group of British Columbia, Canada. The abundant and well preserved trilobite fauna of the McKay group represents a deep water biofacies known as the Wujiajiania biofacies. Most McKay group trilobites are collected from a narrow interval of richly fossiliferous strata.© Owen Yonkin 2022

Elvinia roemeri is an important zonal index species throughout Laurentia, but almost invariably it occurs as disarticulated sclerites. Complete specimens are rare except in the McKay Group. The species was originally described by Shumard (1861) as a species of Dikelocephalus. References: Chatterton, B.D.E., and Ludvigsen, R. 1998. Upper Steptoean (Upper Cambrian) trilobites of the McKay Group of southeastern British Columbia, Canada. Journal of Paleontology. The Paleontological Society Memoir, 49: 1-43. I recently received a nice trilobite from the Upper Cambrian McKay Group in BC, Canada. I found this little guy in the back and wanted to extract him so I could display them together. It was hard since the plate was pretty thin and the two trilobites lied on top of each of on either side. So this little guy got a little beat up. Anyways, does anyone recognize the species? I am completely unfamiliar with the McKay Group.
