Hello, I have this mortality plate from Tafraoute, Morocco and it's from the ordovician. And I have seen similar online, but nobody seems to know the species of the trilobites. Is it possible to have some more info than unidentified trilobite? I tried to take some photos where the cephalon, thorax and pygidium can be seen. Thanks!!!

Hi everyone! I purchased this trilobite mortality plate a few months ago, but I haven't gotten the chance to get an ID yet. All the info I have on it is that it was collected near Tafraoute, Morocco and is from an Ordovician formation. (not sure which one) They are all about an inch and unfortunately most of the heads are not preserved great. I can provide bette r pictures if needed. Thanks!

A few weeks ago I went along AA Highway here in Kentucky and collected a number of mortality plates from the side of the road. I had cleaned up this plate and had it sitting to the side as I tried to figure out how I was going to display it. One of my cats knocked it over last night and split off a chunk that exposed this concretion looking thing that was hidden beneath the top layer of crushed brachiopod shells. Unfortunately when I picked it up to examine it, the top of this concretion looking thing fell off. It sent little fragments everywhere. When I looked back to the main part of the mortality plate I saw this shape. I'm not sure if this is anything of any importance or just an anomaly of the rock. My brain keeps telling me that it looks like bone of some sort (well impression of bone), but I know I'm not experienced enough to know. I collected the top of the concretion looking thing and what fragments I could find and took a picture of them as well. I couldn't pick up the other fragments as they just crumbled in my fingers. Also, I guess it's would be important information this concretion looking things is a little over 3 inches long and about an inch and a half wide. Did my cat just find something of importance in my mortality plate?

Hi all. I was recently in Crawfordsville, hunting along Sugar Creek. While it's getting cold out, I've found that this is a great time to do it since the algae is gone and you can see what's under water! I only spent about forty minutes out there, but still came back with a lot of mortality plates, small crinoid pieces, jaspers, blood stones, and some other interesting things I can't identify yet. I found this piece here sticking out of a mud wall in Sugar Creek Nature Park (I made sure to see if collecting is allowed there--it is). Only about an inch was sticking out, so I was shocked to see how big it ended being. I'm still a newbie at this stuff, but know enough to not soak it in Iron Out. Is there anything I can do to get the rust out without damaging it?

Mortality plate from Lebanon - Armigatus brevissimus
Fossildude19 posted a gallery image in Member Collections
From the album: Fossildude's Purchased/Gift Fossils
Recent acquisition: Mortality plate of Armigatus brevissimus. There may be another type of fish on here as well. Research is ongoing. Without provenance, unfortunately, there is only guesswork from a similar specimen. Age: 98 Million Years Late Cretaceous (Cenomian) Locality: Hakel, Byblos, Lebanon© 2021 Tim Jones

Hi all, over a year ago, I found an enormous chunk of seabed mortality plate in an old Chinese mineral shop. Back then, I couldn't get any solid IDs on it, though it was suggested that the fossils on it were Nautiloids, and that meant it's probably from Zhongning Formation, Ningxia Hui locality. Here's some new high-res pics to hopefully shed some light on where it's from, and what fossils are on it.
