Any fossil hunting sites in Newcastle, Australia?
fossilturtle posted a topic in Australia - New Zealand
Hi friends! Just a beginner/amateur fossil hunter(?)/collector(?) (lol) here and I thought I would ask to see if anyone knows about any cool places around Newcastle - NSW - that I can go fossil hunting? Particulary one that is open to the public (perhaps a beach, hiking trail, etc) and that does not require me to have to call anyone or ask for permission! (and also that I am legally allowed to take the fossils I find hehe) I tried looking on this forum to see if there was any posts about fossil places in Newcastle but I thought I would just ask anyway! Thank you ol' buddies ol' pals -
Good afternoon folks. I have a very small (5mm) tooth or partial tooth on matrix from the Lance Formation outside of Newcastle, Wyoming. Is it a Theropod tooth? It's in the left middle section of the matrix.

I purchased two bones from a seller in Wyoming about 10 years ago and cannot figure out what animal they are from. It's about 3 inches. Can anyone help? Bone #1 is pictured below:

Where are the closest dinosaur sites from The Newcastle area?
FrostbyteFossils posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
So I live in the Newcastle area. I got this map that states that Coonabarabran contains jurassic rock. I can't figure out how accurate this is. So I suppose my question is: does anyone know if this is true and if not, where is the closest place to Newcastle, NSW that contains possible dinosaur or bone material to find?- 8 replies

If you go to the beaches around Newcastle, Australia, expect to find many glossopteris fossils!

These are some fossil glossopteris leaves from different beaches around the Newcastle area. The rocks they are found in tend to be very hard to break, but yield lovely fossils. Good luck! -
Hi Everyone, I suddenly have a work trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota coming up next week and I'd like to get out and collect some fossils along the way. I'm driving from Denver to Lead, SD and will be driving north on HW 85 and 18 through Newcastle. I'd be really happy to get a few stops in along the way and any potential information would really be great. Unfortunately, I won't have a ton of time to be able to stop and really dig, so some road cuts or target formations would be super helpful for surface collecting. I'm open to every type of fossil. I know there's a lot of fossils in that section of the state so I'm looking forward to hopefully finding some decent stuff! Thanks! Caleb
