It looks like it could be a fossil, tho I don't know my geology well enough to begin to speculate as to what kind of fossil it would be, if it indeed could be. It looks like it could be a rock, chalcedony in-filled with limestone maybe, however strange a shape it's taken. I've done my best to set it aside, trying to wait out my curiosity while it sits with the other chunks of chalcedony, but I can't stop looking at it. Please help! K

I've been preparing some things from the Late Jurassic Kimmeridgian for a friend, including a number of Colosia zietini brachiopods. Particularly after they were abraded, I noticed a lot of tiny circular forms on all of them and now I'm wondering what their origin might be, whether mineral or organic dissolution phenomena or whatever? I'm thinking maybe some little things had been attached? Or are they mineralogical? Any ideas?

This is another one I found on the beach in upper Michigan. Devonian and about one half inch long. Slightly raised off rock. Wondering if it’s a fossil or not. Thanks!
