Ryann10006 posted a topic in General Fossil DiscussionI'm not to sure if is the right part of the forum to be asking this but is anyone or would anyone know any experts/specialists that have a focus in Triassic Reptile/Amphibian Remains? Can even be a recomendation of an email address for a specific paleontologist I would be able to contact in regard to discussing a specimen directly and privately.
Going really basic here being new on the fossil game i wanted to know how a fossil gets created because i have read that the bone gets replaced by rock or sediments and they take its original form but if that's the case then we are not holding teeth, we are holding rocks in the form of teeth when holding a fossilized tooth for example. I don't really know so if someone could please explain to me if the fossil is actual tooth like it was back then or it becomes rock and the general process it would be much appreciated.
I was wondering how fossils were preserved and a really cool thread on this site explained using plastic (butvar and others) to do so. It got me wondering, what about before plastic? How did early paleontologists protect fossils? Any links to sources you have would be amazing so I can read more about it. Thanks!
