  1. Starting to ID some of my peace river finds from last season and I'm going to need some help. I found these teeth all in the same hole I don't believe they're all the same animal though. Thanks, Dave
  2. Florida Pleistocene Mammal Tooth Peace River

I recently found this mammal tooth along Peace River in Florida. It is just the cap of the tooth with no root present. I'm having trouble identifying it and was hoping someone would recognize the tooth and what animal it may have come from.
  3. Hello Everybody! I've made plans for a florida fly fishing trip in may, but recently decided that I need to spend a few days digging for Hawthorn group fossils as well. I have a fair amount of experience in searching for Dinosaur fossils in Alberta, but none in the states. While researching the geology of the area, I repeatedly read that the bone valley area is no longer allowed to be hunted. Despite this, all information I have found on waterways such as paynes creek, horse creek, whidden creek (which go straight through bone valley alongside phosphate mines) say that they are totally legal to hunt. What information am I missing here?
  4. Peace River Fossil with pattern?

Hello all, on a recent trip to the Peace river, I found this. It has what appears to be a pattern all over it, even in one of the grooves. Any ideas? Thanks and best regards
  5. The season has begun

Well, it wasn't long into our first day trip...Bonedaddy and I decided to do a little high water scouting. First hour in and we smack right into this monster! It was horribly preserved, and I will have my hands full, but when it's all said and done, should be a beautiful piece.
  6. I'm thinking beaver tooth??????

Found in Peace River. I think maybe beaver??? or capybara??? or could be totally wrong about everything.
  7. Anything worth keeping?

Any of these identifiable? Peace River Florida
  8. ? Florida Finds

Any suggestions? 3 1/4 x 1 1/4 inch. Peace River. Looks like a root used to be on the bottom. Slightly concave.
  9. FL Shark Tooth ID

Hello Everyone. I would like to get some opinions on this tooth that I found at the Peace a few years back. Thanks
  10. Is this isolated protocone?

Found in Peace River. About 1”. Is this three toed horse because of isolated protocone - if that is what it is? Thanks in advance!
  11. Always assumed this was small bear tooth

This was found in the peace river last season, it’s been kinda just in my scraps. I always assumed this was a bear tooth, but I’ve never found anything else like this. Ideas?
  12. Hello everyone! His is my first post on here. My name is Hayley and I’m located in Daytona Beach, Florida. The past two weekends, we made trips to Brownville and Wauchula Florida to hunt the Peace River. On the 18, we found a small meg tooth on the last scoop of the day, along with lots of other teeth and bone fragments. On yesterday’s trip, I found some larger teeth and a completely in-tact (what looked to be a sand dollar) at the last place we stopped at. I will post a picture of it tomorrow because it’s sittig on my desk at work. Anyway, it’s really enjoyable and the conditions are very favorable right now. We have set up a trip to visit again next weekend, and are looking for some fellow hunters who are interested in tagging along. I really want to get on some big meg teeth, and have been scouting out a few decent and promising locations. We have a kayak that we use to get up and down the river. Is anyone interested in meeting up next weekend to hunt?
  13. Is this juvenile horse?

First time out this year. Peace River miocene to pliocene. Kind of a poor specimen, but intrigued me because it is so small. Is it juvenile horse? Friend said thought it might be 3 toed - but no isolated protocone. Please help identify. Thank you!
  14. Peace river member trip

Yesterday a group of TFF members got together in Bowling Green Florida for a canoe and kayak trip down a section of Peace and to do a little hunting along the way. At 7 am I was greeted by quite a few folks I’ve had the chance to hunt with over the last few years. I generally do a lot more talking and less digging on these opportunities but was insistent on trying to pull a really nice piece out and knew I’d have to put in some real time hunting. Due to that, I didn’t get any “ in situ” shots of our fossil hunting brethren so you’ll just have to take my word for a that while it was a little cool in the water, we all spent a fair bit of time putting in some serious digging. No one pulled out a whole mammoth tooth but there were some decent Megs found and other odds and ends. Attached is a pic of my better finds. A decent Meg, a few hemis, chunk of mammoth tooth, deer antler with skull and some rare for me mayumbensis I would like to say thank you for all the folks that made it out yesterday, as always it was great to get out with you all. Feel free to throw up some pics if so inclined @Sacha @Grimlock@Calvin Jenkins @beachbum @megaholic@Cam28
  15. Tff peace river group trip

Have a member get together on the peace for Jan 27 weather permitting. We will be going out at the bridge above Payne’s creek park at lake branch rd and pulling out at Heard rd bridge. You will need your own watercraft as canoe outpost does not service this far upstream. We will work out the car shuffling by ear once we find out how many will be going. There’s at least a dozen folks who are going at the moment and everyone is welcome. This is a great opportunity to learn for new hunters and also a chance to meet some of the great folks who make Tff want it is. If this sounds like a good time post here and once the times are set in stone I’ll post them up. Happy new year to you all, Jeff
  16. Strange vert

Pure speculation, gator? Found near the peace river in Arcadia. Any help, is appreciated.
  17. Large bone

I know this is some kind of joint, but what joint or animal? Only thing I can think, large mammal, I have about 6 guesses.
  18. Mystery vert

My guess is Dugong or whale (leaning on dugong) Very dense and heavy, thanks TFF!
  19. Rhino tooth?

My best guess is Rhino tooth? Also, it has few worrying cracks, is super glue a good idea? Thanks.
  20. Some peace river stuff

Thanks to Digit! I have a real camera! Thanks digit! Expect many pics!
  21. Possible osteoderm?

First off, apologies for low quality pics, only a lap top camera here. I was hoping some one can ID this oddball. My guess is some kind of osteoderm from a glyptodont or tortoise? I will try to update this thread with better pics. (have to get my friends smart phone and have them e mailed to my computer. Sorry double post, tried to delete it but cant seem to. Can a moderator please delete one post?
  22. Small mammal jaw

Greetings to all. I found this little mammal jaw fragment last week and I have yet to identify it. I have done some research and haven't found anything that matches it, thus far. Small mammals are definitely not my area of experience (assuming I have any at all). So, I decided opt for the lazier option and let those with more knowledge do the work for me Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me say that the pics might not be the greatest, so I apologize beforehand. The camera on my phone can only do so much with the little stuff. Needless to say, it was found in a local creek in Southwest Florida close to where I live and the dime was added for scale. Thanks!
  23. Peace River Water Quality

I've been scheduling 2 trips a week to the Peace River, when I can, to take advantage of the low water levels and the warmer than normal days. This is the 1st year, in the 6 or so I've been hunting, that the water has become a soupy green color with suspended algae instead of remaining relatively clear with heavy algae growth on the bottom. The last 2 trips, I came back with what I thought might be a little heat rash on the earlier, and then a pretty broadly scattered rash on my trunk. I'm a little concerned about going back, so I went to the Santa Fe for a break, where the water was warm tea colored, but nice and clear (spring fed). I was just wondering if any other Peace River regulars were having any issues or if I'm just an overly sensitive guy! I'm going to hope today's rain is going to flush a little of the green stuff away, without introducing the end of our season.
  24. Open invitation for May 5th-11th.

I'll be heading out to the peace a few times in early May. I need to collect some bone valley limestone for a trade, plus school is out and I need to get my feet wet. I'm off the entire week, so whatever days work for me. Lemme know if anyone is interested. Cheers -J
  25. partial Capybara I think

Pretty sure this is part of a capybara tooth. Am I right? Found in the Peace River
