Durant Caddo Formation Pond Site wide shot
Clayton Jones posted a gallery image in Member Collections
From the album: Durant Pond Site trip November 11, 2023
This site is exposed in the footprint of a shallow pond. The underlying limestone appears to have been exposed in the process of building the pond. The mud in between the exposed limestone is rich in clay and incredibly sticky.-

Today I would like to share with you a fossil I have which I am shy to show because I have shown it to palaeontologist at the Royal Ontario Museum, (ROM) and they said no it isn’t because it doesn’t fit into the correct time period for this area. I was disappointed but relieved at the same time because now I can keep it I am grateful to them because they gave me their time and experience, but I keep it on my shelf and this is what I think, as the Silurian sea slipped a way land did begin to happen. Fungi and eventually vascular plants. I found this fossil of a Psilophyton, which I have included and this is difficult for me to present on a scientific forum but on the bottom left I think it is an insect, possibly a Diptera Empididae, and have included a diagram. I have placed straight pins to point out my examples. If you continue looking there are more examples Psilophyton. I have studied this fossil for years now.

I am looking for a recommendation for a stereoscope for around $150... I need to recommend this to someone I know, but am not familiar with stereoscopes in this price range. I know this price point may be kind of hard to do, so if it needs to go up a little get one that is acceptable, that is okay I think. It will be used to look at pond water (water bears), so upper and lower illumination will be helpful I think.

Hello, I recently visited a Permian site near Waurika Pond and collected microfossils for my students to explore back in the classroom. Is there a guide to identifying these fossils out there somewhere or is piecemeal searching here the way to go. If not, I will be making the one page guide over the summer have it to offer. Any help on something simple for my elementary aged students would be much appreciated. IMG_0064.DNG IMG_0065.DNG

I love gardening, and one of my favourite groups of plants is ferns. Have quite a few species and have even begun growing them from spore Was at the garden centre this weekend, and decided to add this Equisetum japonicum to my mini pond. I find it fascinating to have modern day versions of fossil plants

We found this jaw bone about 2 ft in depth around a pond that was dug out. I looked up raccoon which seemed to be obvious but it doesn’t have any front teeth. Can you help out by identifying? Thank you. I’m pretty sure it’s not very old. I'm just having a hard time identifying it. Thank you.
