Is it possible to get into the St. Clair Formation as an organized school group
AncientAndy posted a topic in Questions & Answers
To start, I’m aware that the St Clair PA area owned by Reading Anthracite that contains the white ferns is closed for collecting in any general sense. However I have seen posts in the past and discussion that they allow organizations, often with a university, to collect. I just wanted to make a post to see if anyone is aware of this being the case, and the best way to go about reaching out if so. I am a member of the AIPG chapter at WSU in Detroit, and the officers of our group reached out to me to help organize a fossil collecting trip, and I thought it was worth consideration due to our position. And as a side piece if anyone has any other recommendations for spots or quarries to go to or reach out to as a medium-large group that’s doable in a day to 2-day trip out of Detroit I’d happily take those as well. I have a handful of other spots in mind but I’m sure there’s plenty more.- 2 replies

How do you go about asking for private land permission?
Ordivician19 posted a topic in Questions & Answers
This is probably a dumb question, but it’s something I’ve been hesitant about. I was wondering if someone could give me tips about whom to ask (I assume businesses more often than individuals), how to ask in a way that is fair to both parties, and just any common courtesies that I should provide so that I’m less likely to be perceived as insincere. Thank you!- 1 reply

Hi All! Any advice on getting permission to explore a quarry? I’m trying to plan out some trips into the field for later in the fall or next spring if I can get some time off. My top pick by distance and what I’ve heard people talk about here are the Geer Road/Deep Springs Road Quarry. Does anyone know who could be contacted about permission to look for critters for an afternoon there? Thanks! Noah

Hello everybody, I'm looking for the official excerpts of laws that stipulate that a fossil found on a private land in USA is the property of the landowner who can legally keep it, sell it or export it. Do you know where can I find these documents ? If I'm right, the fossils found in US are not considered as cultural heritage. It that right ? Thanks for your help, BR, Yann
