DeepTimeIsotopes posted a topic in Collecting GearAlright, so I noticed there isn't really a go-to form on the internet for asking permission from private property owners to collect on their land. So I compiled all the requests and suggested clauses from here: and here and here and several other private property permission forms into one specifically for fossil, mineral, and rock collectors. I put it all into these documents as a general cover-all forms. FULL VERSION WITH HOLD COLLECTORS HARMLESS Property Owner Permission and Liability Release Agreement.pdf @DPS Ammonite's suggested version: Property Owner Permission and Liability Release Agreement(updated).pdf @Wrangellian's suggested version PROPERTY OWNER PERMISSION AND LIABILITY RELEASE AGREEMENT one page.pdf I hope this can be of use to those needing some kind of permission form for collecting on private land. If you do not like it or don't think it covers anything feel free to edit it and post the edited versions here.
i have 11 acres of farmland, and i found a ravine behind my barn. at the mouth of the ravine is either a hog holler, or animal holler, or a hole leading down into a cavern, idk yet. i am clearing it off this weekend carefully, and weedhacking it, and raking it. i would like to open this area up as a dig site, and i need assistance in how to properly achieve this. i would just start digging but i am afraid i will damage some fossil or something if i do not do it properly. there are 5 lakes within a thousand yards of the ravine, but they are either on a golf course, landlocked, or inaccessible private land/pine farm. i am seeking to dig in my area, and if anything is found, it would be proof more exists back here. this house is the top of the hill in all directions, and the ravine is the last land dip before the next property starts. if anyone is interested in contacting me, [send a PM] serious inquiries only please, i will respond with google earth images of the land, and dig site area circled. while the trees are still there, the google earth image does not reflect the last years land clearing my tractor and goats have achieved. if you are interested, please feel free to come survey the property with me and discuss the best ways to begin the process.
We are planning a vacation in June to the Badlands area in South Dakota. I am wanting to do a fossil dig. Somewhere that is not expensive or and would like to keep what I find. Is this just a pipe dream? Where do I start? I am studying to be a middle and high school teacher in Kansas. I have always love fossils. I even have a T-Rex skeleton tattoo! I did contact the Badlands Park and they said you can keep up to 25 lbs as long as it is not a vertebrate. Please help! Thank you!
