-Andy- posted a topic in Member-to-Member Fossil Trades
Hello, I'm trading two small Protosphyraena teeth. Here are their info: Protosphyraena sp. 84.9 mya | late Cretaceous Molecap Greensand Formation Gingin, Western Australia These two teeth have a value of 20 USD in total. I am trading them away for any other fossil with roughly that value. Thank you for your interest -

Earlier this year I bought this case from IKEA for about $60. Then I added some LED lights and a few nice fossils. Check it out: Top row is basically the "ferocious fish" level Next down is the Tylosaurus / platycarpine mosasaur level Then the Cretoxyrhina level And a Pteranodon wing cast I made Overview of the four layers: Top level: Xiphactinus and Protosphraena. Note embedded tooth on r. Xip vertebra.

Found this tooth in April 2018 in Monmouth County, NJ. I've seen people post pictures of the teeth of Protosphyraena on the forum from this area before and wondered if the tooth I found was also one. The shape of the tooth is what led me to the idea. It's around a centimeter long.

So in August 2016 I stumbled upon some bones sticking out of a creek in north central Texas. I dug out a partial skull of a protosphyraena fish. I looked for more but this was all I found at the time. Late Cretaceous Atco Formation- Austin group 86-90 mya

Last weekend I came across the proximal end of what appeared to be a Bonnerichthys pectoral fin. Since I didn't have my PVA with me I decided to wait until today. After my Paleo friend had finished his finals we headed out to the field. It was a cool and very misty day. After some exploratory digging it turned out to be a Protosphyraena fin (due to the large serrations) Here is the hill after several hours of work: Finally reached the tip of the fin. If complete the fin would have been near 30 inches long. Thankfully it broke off the pedestal very cleanly: It took another half hour and some serious teamwork to lift this guy to my waiting truck. After it was safe and sound we took the fin to my new prep area. -KansasFossilHunter (Kris)

Here is a sneak peak of one of my recent discoveries: Protosphyraena perniciosa (swordfish) Smoky Hill Chalk Late Cretaceous Gove County, KS USA I estimate that the fin would have been over 3 feet in length if complete. I'll place it in a square slab and finish it up from there. Should look great. Kris (KansasFossilHunter)
