Just got back from mason tx in hill country rock hounding and artifact collecting. Think I found at least a few topaz gemstones. Possibly more. any id help would be much appreciated. Spent 3 days digging under boulders and places the heavy minerals would be trapped. seem to be very rare and was a lot of work Was Very difficult to sift through all the quartz in this area. Most of these stones were found in natural slough catching areas near bedrock. any recommendations would be awsome. First time to look look for gemstones in Texas. just need recommendations and do not have a scale to test gravity nor hardness tests on stones. will be going to gemologist soon these are just my suspect topaz. Especially 1-13 pics. pics 1-7 smoky quartz or big topaz? The big stone is what I’m excited about. It’s not glass also. I know what slag glass or glass looks and feels like etc. Very heavy and looks like the Indians might of tried to knap stone etc. quartz will not scratch this stone. 8-13 small stones. Topaz? 14-20 most I suspect quartz or low quality topaz if any on this lot? Ryolite in granite or llanite etc. ?

Hi guys, Today I have questions about my 2 rocks. They were found somewhere between Coonamble NSW Australia and Darwin NT Australia only about 3400kms so gosh knows the geological information my thoughts are I most likely picked them up between either Mt ISA and Winton Queensland or Katherine and Darwin NT but it was about 12yrs ago so I really can't remember what came from where except 3 other "special" ones that I can't locate at the moment because obviously I put them "somewhere very safe" First rock is pale grey and contains heaps of little quartz type crystals I don't really know what else to say other than should I crack it open? Second rock is more interesting to me as it is a harder rock encased in a calcite type material with a couple of little crystals in both hard and softer rock, my question on this one is should I try to dig a little deeper through the calcite material and see what the harder rock actually looks like? Kind regards Tara

Found this earlier today in Hamilton, Ontario. It was next to railway tracks, so at some point it was brought there with other gravel. Would really appreciate if anybody could help figure out what it is. Thanks

Hello! Today I accidentally found some stones, which I assume to be Quartz, considering, in the same region I had found normal Quartz. But both minerals look rather beautiful and I wondered, what they could be? I googled it, of course and am not sure, whether they (or one) is a Jesper and the other one a Chalcedony? I hope someone of you can help me

Hi all! I made one of the the personal coolest discoveries of mine yet - while hunting for petrified wood in tiny, tiny stream on the catahoula formation I found a chip of petrified (palm, most likely) that is completely composed of a translucent mineral, perhaps quartz? I'm curious as to what mineral this piece may have fossilized in. Furthermore, is this a particularly special find? I'm a newbie, so just because it's a first for me doesn't mean it's uncommon. Here are some photos, for reference: and the other side: here it is wet, and held up to the sun. The second photo has my finger behind it so the translucence could be understood Thanks for any help!

Hi! I'm new to scene and have only just begun to expand my knowledge in fossils. Having said that, I'm open to any suggestions, knowledge, education, methods, etc. as to how to figure what this specimen is! Thanks for your time, much appreciated. I found this about a 1/4 mile off the coastline in a seasonal drainage in Northern California. Ohhh FYI my scale is set in grams
