Hey all I picked up this trilobite really cheap from a seller I trust but I've seen him make mistakes before so I'll get the opinions from experts here! Is the ID correct? Can you spot any repairs? Under UV there is something at the back of the trilobite, I can also spot a crack in the matrix so it might be a splodge of glue. Based on the price I paid, I assume these are really common.... or did I find a diamond in the rough or the preservation just isn't as good as some others in this genus? Seller said Gerastos 360 million years old Morocco

Repaired, Composite, or Fake Spinosaurus claw? How to spot the signs.
Genetic Algorithm posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Good day and thank you for reading! I bought a 7-inch Spinosaurus claw in an auction and was hoping to get a second opinion on the condition and authenticity. I can send it back within a month for a full refund. I am also hoping for some pointers in knowing if is repaired or a composite. I have read many of the forums on here, but I have more questions. The length is 7 inches, but I do not have a ruler at the moment. This fossil is supposedly from the Kem Kem beds in Morocco. Any help is appreciated! Btw I do not have many fossils and plan to display this one to the public at my work if I keep it. Reasons why I do not think it is a composite or a carving: The texture and colors match on both ends of claw. They are also appropriate for fossils from Morocco. The shape and feel are good. Blood grooves follow the correct path. Reasons why I question if it is repaired or a composite: The darker brown areas do have a smoother texture and the grain is not visible in the very dark areas. How can you tell if this is substrate or cement/glue? If it is cement or glue, this piece could have been broken in half at some point, since the darker material has a concentration at the center and the tip. The blood grooves are not the exact same size on either side, though they are close. One side is wider. The darker areas do cause some "muddiness" but I cannot tell if it substrate. It is a bit lighter than I expected, but feels solid and has a similar feel and sound to other fossils when I tap it. The density feels similar to a Spinosaurus tooth, but feel less dense than a megalodon tooth. -
Are these real Megaladon teeth?
Erin36 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I just purchased these sold as Megaladon teeth. I see some repairs I think. The big one I think is in almost perfect condition. The others seem small so not sure if they are Megaladon or another shark fossil? Any help is appreciated. -
Need help with this sabertooth canine! Wanted to know if its ever been repaired or not(in its original state). The canine looks superb to the naked eyes, but under a magnifyer, I can see white residue in the crack or fractured area. The line of the crack or fractured area goes all the way around the canine. One would assume that its been fractured and glued back together, yet it could been molded to make replicas leaving some molds in the cracks. But I noticed that the serrations are not alligned. One side sits higher than the other of the fractured or cracked area. All together it weighs light, but its lighter on the root side. Please look at these photos and help me out with your experience, knowledge, and expertise! Can the canine have these cracked or fractured lines but was never broken or fixed?

Same supplier as the Madagascan fish I asked about last week This is of interest. The seller does say it has been repaired, which one can obviously see Is this rare/hard to come by? Good value? Thoughts? Thanks Edit: I can't make the image larger - don't have the software.

Hi guys, i'm thinking about making my first Megalodon tooth purchase for my collection, and have located a (what seems to me) very very nice specimen that is both high in quality, big in size, and affordable in price. But i am not an expert when it comes to shark teeth, so i need a bit of a helping hand so i don't get caught out by fakes/undisclosed R and R. Can the shark tooth experts on this forum take a close look at the pics below and tell me if they think there is any R and R on the tooth? It's longest side is 4.75 inches, and the seller says there is no R and R. I trust him, as he seems like a very very reputable seller, but want to be totally sure before i shell out my dollars. It's a necessary precaution, especially since this is my first Meg tooth and i am not an expert on shark teeth. Nothing against the seller by any means. Notice how the back looks very shiny, is it polished or natural? The price is about 400 dollars, is that a good deal? Thanks guys
