Hey everyone. I've been blown away by some of the shark tooth restoration work out there so I wanted to learn this skill for myself. I practiced on a real beat up tooth I found. It was probably too challenging of a tooth to restore on my first attempt but I figured it would be a good opportunity to practice restoring the root as well as enamel. The sculpting material hasn't completely cured yet but when it does I will be smoothing it out and then painting it. The enamel areas definitely need smoothing. It's far from perfect but I just figured I'd share this first attempt. Below are is a photo of the tooth how it looked before, some progress pics, and how it currently looks. I'm going to keep practicing. If anyone has any tips or tricks that would be awesome!

just dug this up, tried to buff it with some wool and oxide polish but it just scuffed it up instead. I guess there was limestone in the fossil and now it looks chalky. any way to make it look good again or is it ruined.

Hello, I bought this megalodon tooth some time ago. I let it fall on the gound recently and now it is broken. I managed to find most of the missing pieces and started to put some glue. Is it possible to restore it ? Best regards,

mamlambo posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Hi Everyone I have two halves to a concretion that contains a good size crab. What would be the best way / product to get it restored and ready for prepping? If there is already a thread, please point me in the direction as I couldn't find it. Thanks! @RJB@DLB- 18 replies

Real or Fake Spinosaurus tooth
Patient113 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
New to buying fossils and need some help. My friends birthday is coming up and her favorite dinosaur is a spinosaurus so I bought her two teeth on ebay. The listing says they are authentic "rooted" spinosaurus teeth with no "restore". I have read online that sometimes people will attach cement to the bottom of the teeth and I'm wondering if that's what they did here. I have two weeks to return them so any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the support! -
I repaired these great white and mako teeth. They started out as teeth with relatively complete blades, but with very little to no root remaining. I reconstructed the roots, and then painted the roots the color of teeth in my collection with the same color of blades.

Hi everyone, I would like to learn how to repair a 6' megalodon tooth I have in my possession. About 40% is missing, but the remaining tooth is not half bad. I do not know where to start as far as tools and materials go. I am an experienced painter and sculptor so hopefully that comes in handy? Also, I recently repaired a shattered triceratops rib, so I have a tiny bit of experience with fossil repair. Although, I am sure that shark teeth are entirely different. So....does anyone have any experience with repairing fossil meg teeth? Is it a complex process? What tools and materials do I need? I would really like to do this. I've heard it takes practice and experience, but I think it would be an interesting challenge. Thanks so much! Lauren Sorry in advance for the lousy picture(s)...
