Hello, I need your help to identify this XXL schizaster! the biggest ones that I found have the approximate size of: 2.5 inch (65 mm) but this is huge! Found earlier this week in "zanclean" in the Pyrenees Orientales in France. The colors originate, I think, from iron oxides. I thought of eurynotus or major but without certainty. Thank you in advance for your input.

Hey TFF Members! Cris and I were able to get out and do some super fun Echinoid hunting earlier this week! We were able to find some very nice specimens from the Eocene. If anyone has an ID on the big thick one I found in the video, please let me know! We got stuck in some nasty storms on this trip, but were also lucky enough to see a stunning rainbow! It was a great trip. Check out the vid if you get a chance!

This is the second of this species I have added in Collections; to illustrate how variable their physical appearance can be. Hence, variabilis.

S. variabilis is an uncommon echinoid find in North Carolina. At present, to my knowledge there are 2 locations where it can be found. It occurs is the youngest part of the PeeDee. Most of the specimens are crushed or broken, which makes this one special as it is my only complete specimen. Variabilis is a good species name for this, I will be posting 2 others so you can see how variable they can be.
