With the waters of the peace river very low, slow and about as clear as it gets I decided to try my luck snorkeling a few deep holes I visited last year north of Arcadia. The gators are out but we were as safe as possible and had zero issues.
The depth of our best hole went from 2-3 feet of limestone bottom to a roughly 10' deep hole that was 4ish feet wide and 20+ feet long. We threw rocks in for about 20 minutes hoping to scare out anything that might be hiding and then I cannon balled in. It took a few minutes to check things out (dive light on hand) and one of the first things I saw was chunky gravel with a Meg tip sticking out.
I didn't have any scuba tanks with me and had to go back to the surface frequently because of the depth but we recovered a great deal of fossils! We also dug for an hour or two afterwards and did ok but nowhere near as good as when we snorkeled. I dont usually hunt this far south but that's going to change in the future :).
