Agatized coral from the Withlacoochee River, southern Georgia
MarcoSr posted a topic in Member Collections
I acquired these agatized corals from TFF member John Sacha @Sacha through an “Auction to Support The Forum” a few years ago. I usually only put a high value on fossils/minerals that I collect myself. However, I have always really liked these agatized corals. I recently acquired a UV light to check fossils for the amount of repair and restoration that they might have. Of course I decided to look at a lot of my fossils under the UV light and take some pictures. With these agatized corals the UV light pictures are interesting. However, I decided to take pictures in just natural light. To me the natural colors are awesome. I now really like these agatized corals more than when I first received them. Agatized corals get a lot more complex and colorful than these specimens that I have. Maybe other TFF members can post a few of their specimens? Fossil Coral from Tampa Bay Florida lapidary material
Gregcohen posted a topic in Member Collections
Many people are familiar with the lapidary material and cabochons from Indonesia. Not as many are familiar or aware of the material from Florida. In this case the Tampa Bay Florida area. These coral fossils are from 22-26 million ago and have been silicified. (The Florida Natural History Museum's invertabrate professor is co-authoring a paper that narrows the time period). The local lapidary club is open again so thought I'd share some of my amateur pieces and the raw material I've found.- 12 replies

Fossilized shell from Tampa Bay Florida 23-34 million years old
Gregcohen posted a topic in Fossil ID
Can anyone identify this 1ish inch shell that is agatized that dates back 23-24 million years ago found in Tampa Bay Florida? Does anyone know a paper that references these? I use muriatic acid to clean limestone chunks of agatized coral stick. Many times I come across other items like this. Corals and shells. Just trying to get a better idea of some of the items I found. This was left for me by mother nature on a storm Christmas eve 2020.- 11 replies

Hello again, I found this unusual shaped piece on a beach on West Coast, Florida. It's hard to tell whether it's a suggestive rock or mineralized bone. It reminded me of a claw or hoof core. I attached 5 photo views. What do you think?
