Preparation of fish fossils from Santana Formation Brazil
megadiente posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Hi there After a long time, I prepared two fish from Santana Formation Brazil. ATharrhias Araripis and a Paraelops Cearensis, 54cm long. I am always wondering, if I am the only one with a passion for these unique three dimensional fossils. Usually I buy them on Internet Auctions, so there is nothing illegal, means there no recent imports from Brazil. Would like to meet some People here, who have the same passion. I am just beginning to prep fish fossils, so some experiences would be highly appreciated. regards Megadiente- 12 replies

Abundant in Santa do Cariri. Exceptionally large ones occur rarely in Jardim. 5db5f6529e3cd_Tharrhiasararipisreconstr.JPG.50423fc298c70e4279ed389ed0986837.jfif

My dad picked up this fossil from a quarry in Brazil, and based on what I've been able to find so far it seems like it's a tharrhias araripis (the location and appearance matches the info I've found so far). It seems pretty detailed/well preserved, and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm my guess or identify it as something else. Thanks! Had some trouble uploading my pictures, so check them out here: http://imgur.com/a/MtkhD
