Another one that I have had for years and just found it in garage. I do remember where I got this one I found it in the Verde valley of Arizona walking through the river.. So the color is hard to pick up in photos because when I get close the picture turns kinda orange so to speak! No clue why? The crystal matrix is more of a yellow/green in person !

A friend found this stone west of the Missouri in SD. It's now in my possession. There's one very visible spiral shell and what I believe are fragments of more scattered throughout, plus some bonus crystalline spots and something funky going on next to them (pic 4). I have no idea when it dates to, but another rock found nearby is probably Ordovician. However, according to the friend, they were all deposited there by the river more recently and were near the surface, so context is pretty lacking. As you can see, the rock itself is pretty weird too, especially on the back. Answers to any of my questions (what the fossils are, how old it is, what is going on with the rock) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I found this bizarre (to me at least) rock in a creek in Floyd County, Kentucky. The dark area of the rock is very resistant to scratching with metal tools. The lighter part feels and acts like an extra hard sandstone. Recent flooding may have pushed it down stream. No factories. I find it interesting how it looks like an old melted clump or rotten fruit turned to stone. Just curious as to what kind of rock this might be so that I can research how it is formed. Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I found this odd rock when I was out fishing yesterday. Seems to be chert, with small tubes (some sort of crystal) running all through the rock. I have found Mississippian age fossils in rock from the area, but I have never stumbled upon a stone like this. If anyone is familiar or knows what geologic process this is, I would love to know more. Thanks!

So I found this pretty rock and felt the need to bring it home. Can anyone tell me why it formed like that?
