It was 10 days ago that I had the opportunity to enter a quarry in eastern Iowa as part of a scheduled fossil club venture. This particular quarry asked our members to collect specimens for a children's program that they were putting on last weekend. I donated a good 7 gallons of fossils to the quarry and do not have much to show from there Here is a few things brought back with me. A hand full of odds and ends. A colonial coral that had a vuggy center full of beautiful crystals. Couldn't let the kids have this one. Finally, a placoderm "tooth" from a small species called Ptyctodus. Is plate the proper terminology vs tooth?????

When I hunt trilobites in the Eau Claire Formation, Cambrian, I encounter this type of rock frequently. Could it be trilobite trace fossils or just dried mud??? The squiggles are raised over the background rock. Mike
