Found while digging for sharks teeth on the beach at Edisto. It’s a little over an inch in length.

Hi I'm hoping for help with a couple fossils I found diving off of Venice coast. The first I think is an ear bone, but it seems a bit small for a whale. My uneducated guess for the second was whale tooth, but it doesn't have the horizontal banding I've seen in other examples. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Greens Mill Run finds, including baleen whale fossils

Made a recent trip to Greens Mill Run and got quite a few nice fossils, particularly fossil bone. Large fragment of a Pliocene baleen whale lower jaw bone, whale rib fragment, baleen whale tympanic bullas, unfused whale vertebral epiphysis, Chesapectens jeffersonius, other Chesapectens spp., clams, etc. All collected in-situ, all from the Yorktown formation. Also quite a few sharks teeth collected from gravel bars. Also one pic, the one with the belemnites lined across the top, is all in-situ Cretaceous stuff. Great trip, digging the stuff up was a nice change from all the gravel sifting haha

I know this is a cetacean ear bone and I know it is from Sharktooth Hill but that is ablut all I know for sure. It is pretty large at 3" long and 1.5'' wide which would seem to rule out of the smaller dolphin-like whales. My first thought was Aulophyseter morreci. It could also be a mysticeti as well. Regardless of species, it is a really nice addition to our STH whale collection.

My son and I had a wonderful July4th weekend on Tybee Island (near Savannah). We went in a boat with Sundial Charters to look for fossils along the Savannah River. The Captain and mate were the nicest people, so much history and interesting ecology and nature (we saw dolphins and white pelicans) - I had gone with the same company 10 years ago :). I’m curious if I’ve labeled the teeth correctly and if anyone knows the type of vertebrae or what that piece is in the lower right, please chime in! Thanks

I have a whale bulla and I am hoping to get some ID help with this. It was labeled as a Sperm Whale ear bone but after searching pretty extensively, it looks more like a Mysticeti whale to me. I am far from an expert though so I thought I would post it here and see if anybody has any thoughts on it. It was a dive find in South Carolina. It is a pretty good sized ear bone I think, about 4.8 inches long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Decided to take a day off while working in California. One of my coworkers was interested in going for a dig so we headed to Bakersfield. Met Rob at the gates at 7:30 and headed in. This was the first time I have had the time to spend an entire day. (Also the first time I have been there in under 100 degree temps.) Rob led us to Slow Curve and we began digging. Was a fun day. Found a few nice teeth and left with five gallon pickle bucket of matrix to look through back home in Dallas. Airport loves me when I check in 80 lbs. of dirt. Found a nice 2.1 inch hastalis which may not be big to some but was my best of the day. My favorite find though was my Aulophyseter morricei whale ear bone with associated stapes bone (Thank you @boesse for the identification.) Overall, we had a fun day and found some nice teeth. We were kept company by this furry little friend as well. Thanks for looking.

Went to Ernst quarries last week and found this whale ear bone. When I cleaned out the matrix this small bone popped out. My thoughts are that it might be a whale stirrup bone from the ear. If that is the case, what are the odds it is associated to the earbone found in the same matrix?

It is similar to bones I have seen that have been identified as dolphin ear bones. So, I thought this larger one may be to a whale? In truth, its a wild guess.

I picked this up at a local shop in the area for a very good price. As far as they could tell me the ear bone was from the Carolina's. It's weight is 4.2 ounces. I'm sure it would be difficult to determine the exact species or age but any info would be appreciated. Thanks- Mike
