Hi folks, I'm new to the forum, but I've been keeping my eyes on the ground for a while now, looking for interesting rocks and fossils. Recently I dug up this big rock while digging a drainage ditch on my place here in Western Montana. I'm located up against the Garnet range about 4 miles from the Blackfoot river, around 20 miles east of Missoula. I have no idea what this thing is, or what the nodules (?) are. The rock weighs ~70lbs by my estimation, and it very smooth except where the weird bumps and lumps stick out. It is not limestone, as I tested a small scraping with vinegar. Some areas have quartz features. One local rockhound said that maybe its a ball of ancient mudballs or perhaps worm castings but he wasn't sure. I haven't found any other rocks around that look like it... Any ideas? It's so cool looking! Feel free to ask any questions. Hi all, total fossil numbskull here. I found this on my local beach here on Anglesey , Wales, UK this morning and thought it looked like fossil worms of some sort. Your thoughts would be most welcome! Thanks Huw

Hi All! Wondering what's in this rock? Fossilized worm burrows? Not fossils at all?
Spark posted a topic in Fossil ID
This is a 55lb rock my family found in a stream bed on a local hike in Southern California. Any idea what we've got? We are speculating some of the shapes look like worm burrows? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!- 8 replies

Some days ago, I saw this rock in a ravine, Dayi County, Sichuan, China. But, I don't know what it is, does anyone know this? I also found brachiopod and tabulate corals fossils in that ravine.

Hi, folks, I found this slab of rock on the shore of a guzzle in the Seabrook marshes (NH). I can't tell if these little black structures are fossils of some kind or mineral accretions. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hi ! So I've found on the beach in french Brittany thousands of those stones (fossiles ? Thingies ?). I started to search the internet to ID them and I stumbled across this website via this post : So basically they look a lot like wormcast you typically see on a beach but they are solid and look like limestone. I don't know much about fossils so I can't really tell but they definitely feel like limestone and other fossiles I've found before. Another information that might help with ID is that basically I found them amongst litterally thousands of those but there was no other place were I could find such things anywhere else on the beach. They were in a place with a lot of other seashells, covering an area of maybe 2m² . I find all of this very intriguing. Do any of you have an idea of what it is ? Have a good day

Morning folks. Sorry, I really don't like to do this - I have NO information at all as to what, where or when concerning this fossil. Can anyone help with the ID? My wife says it looks like a "gift" from my cat after an all-nighter in the back yard.
