Goal: collect all Pierre Shale formation main fossil specimens. During my fossil hunting trips I collect a lot of different fossils but never take the time to figure out what it is exactly. Here I will record my trips and finds but more importantly try to identify what it is. This list will encourage me to not just look for the big marine reptiles but also smaller things I normally ignore. I understand how unrealistic this goal is but it's fun. Any feedback or suggestions are welcomed! Specimens shown on wiki for Pierre shale. Found this near the articulated mosasaur tail but in mud silt. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/124993-mosasaur-articulated-spine-pierre-shale-sd-quarry/ Any way to id these teeth? Also random fish vertebrae in it. One strange looking one with like a core in it. Looks like a wash together collection. Photo order got scrambled when uploaded.

NJ Cretaceous Mosasaur partial tooth and Enchodus or X-Fish fang?
Fishinfossil posted a topic in Fossil ID
Morning out a few weeks back in NJ Cretaceous streams and found what I think is a enamel chip from a mosasaur tooth. The other appears to be possible fang from Enchodus or X-Fish? Any confirmations on either of those? Thanks. Please excuse picture clarity, just have Iphone today. -
I find it interesting seeing how others collect and prep, so I thought others might like seeing how I do in the chalk of western Kansas. First though, let me say I dont claim to be an expert at all. I make lots of mistakes, and am still learning. I found this fish last summer, and I contacted fellow member "Xiphanctius" for advice. This was the biggest jacket I've ever done, and I am thankful for his advice. Now to the pictures! This first one is showing after removing some chalk over the skull. There was a little wash area that had exposed the front of the skull. One piece of the top jaw ( with no teeth) was found eroded out along with some pectoral fin pieces.
