I went hunting to the kinzer formation (cambrian) from a suggestion of a member here (thanks very much for that), and hunted for around two hours in the shale. Nothing I found screamed trilobite (my target fossil) but I did come back with a few interesting looking rocks. I'm not too familiar with the paleofauna here, so I'm putting most of my finds up here so you guys can tell me what fossils I've found (or lack there of).

I was walking on a countryside path in York (UK) and a strange rock on a plowed land captured my attention. It has a strange shape that looks to me as a fragment of bone close to its epiphysis which seems broken. The cross section is composed of three layers, the central one brownish-red, the middle one white (both very solid) and the most external one is like rock but a bit porous to touch. Do you think it can be a fossil bone? If yes, what could it be? First image as size reference.

This is from the southwest side of the York river a short way upstream from the bridge in Yorktown, VA. And I do mean up, stream. The bank is rip rap ! Something appears to have settled on this bryozoan while it was alive ? Scale is in mm.

Hey friends, Hope you're all well. I recently went to New York for the first time and throughly enjoyed what the city had to offer, however one of the stand out days was definitely a trip to the American Museum of Natural History. I won't bombard you with thousands of picture but I will post a few of my favourites Also a question, annoyingly I was on limited time and wasn't able to make the last slot of the "Meet T-Rex: The Ultimate Predator", has anybody done the tour and is it worth doing? I was gutted I missed it and would like to hear what others thought of it. I'm sure most of you know the I.Ds but i'll list a few of them just incase. So here's a few pics from my journey This specimen is AMNH 5027 and it was excavated in 1908 by Barnum Brown in Montana. Interestingly enough this specimen also provided the first complete skull of Tyrannosaurus rex. Not an alien, a pano that went a little wrong, it's hard to fit these guys in.

So... Okay, I just started getting into hunting for fossils. I've always loved fossils and gems and the lot. I went gem mining for the first time when I was about 10 or 11 in McKinley, VA, and since then - I've loved it! My family went on a trip to Cherokee and the Smoky Mtns when I was younger, and we found all kinds of unearthed fossilized things and gem mines. Saturday, we went to Westmoreland State Park up in Montross for the first time, and even though it was chilly and rainy, we found five or six decent shark teeth. I've done a little research, but I'd prefer what other people - and not articles - have to say. Where's the best places to find fossils in VA?

I went up to Virginia for Christmas and went hunting down by the York river and found these. I am not sure if it's something or nothing. I don't find these in Florida. Thanks
