    Hi friends! I recently took an 8000 miles road trip across the western US and got to visit a lot of rock shops and roadside sellers (the selling out of their yard folks always have the best stuff). I bought these from a guy near Zion, he didn't know what they were. Any ideas?

    Navajo Sandstone trace fossil?

    I saw this potential fossil in the Jurassic age Navajo Sandstone in Zion National Park in Utah. I'm sorry that there is only one picture with no scale. I was hurrying down the precarious Angel's Landing trail with a long line of people behind me, so I only had time for a quick picture. The feature is probably about ~12 inches long, and I believe that it is situated on the plane of a cross-bed in a dune structure (example of the cross-bedded sandstone is also pictured). This feature might just be some sort of iron precipitation, but it looked so similar to an invertebrate trace fossil that I am not sure. Any thoughts on what it could be?

    Some years ago I found this among the red rocks just beyond Zion National Park. I thought it was a stone with erosion and wore it around my neck until someone told me it was a petrified bone. I took it to a place in NYC that specializes in fossils and they told me to go to the Museum of Natural History because they could not identify it but definitely thought it was something. I thought I should let you guys take a crack at it. Photos are of two sides with the second side showing a distinct darkness around the putative foramen. I have additional photos. I am new at this and appreciate any insights or thoughts. Thank-you! Dimensions: Length: 3.25" (8.5 cm) Width: 1.25" (3.0 cm) Thickness: 0.25" (app. 0.5 cm) Foramen: 0.25" (app. 0.5cm)

    Coprolite ID

    bdean posted a topic in Fossil ID

    Hello from Southern California I was going through my garage and found, what I was told is Coprolite, that I bought at a little rock shop in Zion Utah. I bought this about 16 years ago, and it was a "display" used for displaying other coprolites. Can anyone confirm this?
