My boss has a collection of fossils picked out of the Brazos river, TX. Most of his are pet wood/plant but this one perked my interest.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Maybe calcite veins in sandstone or limestone?

It has some resemblance to desert rose gypsum crystals.

Neat looking piece.

Check out also "boxwork".

I totally unterstand the desert rose suggestion, though!

I thought the same thing. Here is a picture of a small desert rose from my sons rock collection for comparison.

I think it's a gypsum formation along the lines of a desert rose.

I don't have a close up, but ones like your specimen are pretty common in southern Morocco .

It was my understanding that the gypsum crystals form in a "petal like" shape and thus the nomenclature of Desert Rose.

This does look much more like Boxwork as Roger suggested.

Only a tiny percentage form the classic 'rose' shape that's commercially seen.

Most are like the ones in the bottom left of this photo I took in February in Ifrane, Middle Atlas.

Thanks for all of the feed back. I’d like to get it under a magnifier as there appears to be some crystallization.
