Missheathere
I found this agate on a beach in Northern California. It appears to have a flying insect trapped inside of it. Is this even possible? Or is it an illusion? Who would I contact to find out for sure?

Pterygotus
Agate or amber? Amber occasionally contains insect remains and is translucent while agate is opaque. Might be worth giving it a polish.
Pterygotus
It does look like amber. Also, is that a UV light because they can tell if it’s real amber?
Mark Kmiecik
If you research how agate is formed you will understand why the chances of this being an insect in agate are closer to "none" than they are to "slim". Your chances of winning a really huge Lotto jackpot are a million times better. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
