Trilobite trackway?

I am considering buying this fossil offered online but it's NOT on our "favorite" auction site- just straightforward purchases.

I really like this, and it's not QUITE up to what is not affordable for me. It is offered as an arthropod trackway in hyporelief.

"Hyporelief," a term/description that was new to me. Thanks.

Hi, Bea. :)

Could be trilobite, though trilobite trails are often not so spread apart.

I think arthropod is a fairer description from the seller.

Does it say where it's from?

I am told it is from the Katoua Formation in the near vicinity of Ouzina, Morocco.

Since it's from Morocco, I'm not sure what to think.

It is lower Ordovician.

I am trying to find out more about the Katoua Formation, but am having no luck with Google.

Anyone have suggestions for where I can read about it?

Thanks!

Hmmm.

Katoua Formation is Upper Ordovician, i think, famed for its echinoderms, like mine from El Kaid Ourami near Khouribga.

But arthropod tracks would not be impossible, I suppose.

Trilo trails close together are known as cruziana, yours, if they are made by a trilo, would be diplichnites.

And Ouzina is known for Cretaceous stuff, though I'm not positive there's no Ordovician outcrops in the area.

Lots of weird arthropods, some soft bodied, were wandering about in the Lower Ordovician of Morocco.

But if this is Upper Ordovician, then trilobite diplichnites is most likely.

It's a nice piece imo. :thumbsu:

Thanks for your input! I actually went ahead and bought a different, smaller piece from the same seller. But i'm very happy with it!
