Hey everyone,

I just received this fossil from a friend and was wondering if anybody could help me properly ID it.

Thanks!

Yes, i think Drotops megalomanicus from Morocco.

It's is fossil law that whenever you say or write the name Drotops megalomanicus, it must be shortly followed by an evil chuckle or laugh. mu HAHAHAHA HAH!

They are not uncommon on the fossil market. They are found in a particular horizon in the Devonian rocks of Morocco and locals quarry that layer specifically to find these fossils. They are about the largest examples of a Trilobite you can buy commercially for not a terribly large amount of money.  Though there are larger Trilobite species from the Ordovician of Morocco that can be found/purchased.

Are these rare in terms of other trilobites?

Much rarer these days as the horizon where they are found is becoming tapped out.
