Stone littered with micromollusk

There are several hundreds of small to micro marine specimen in this one stone. There's complete bivalves, odd looking gastropods and things that I have no ideal as to what they are. I'm told the age of these specimen are most likely beyond two millions years old.

The stone looks a lot like a US one-cent coin. :D WOW -- those are tiny. I love the 11-tooth "gear". I can't help with ID, but I love your finds.

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Where was this "stone" found. This could help ID your finds. Saying they are likely more than 2 million years old is not really helpful for ID's.

Also a picture of the stone itself could help. Also I would like to see the other side of the round "star" item. Kind of looks like an echinoderm to me.

Them red clay piles are heaven on earth
I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt

I love the "mini mount" of gastropods!

You could fit a thousand of these on a shelf and still have room to spare. :thumbsu:

I too would like to see the entire stone.  Where did you find it?

The penny is used just to show scale. I can show a photo of the stone but the location it was found is of no help at all. This stone was found along with about 9 other sandstone boulders in the California dessert. This stone was somewhat different than the others and the fossils in it appears somewhat odd. A local paleontologist says that the area it was found in is not known for producing any fossil at all. These stones were most likely transported to that area a very long time ago by water. I have searched all around the areas nearby and have not found any other stones or fossils. I have contacted a number of scientist trying to figure out how old the fossil are in these stones and have been told that the minimum age would be 2.5 millions years old, the max age could be beyond 55 million.

Hi,

A penny isn't a good rule of scale. First because, as has often been said, non-Americans don't know how big they are, and second because they aren't even seen in full. Giving the size in millimetres or inches would be the best solution ;)

Ohhh snap! I totally forgot that there were non-Americans members here too, so thanks for the reminder....I will in deed keep that in mind from now on.
