Welsh Wizard
Hi I found this over Christmas. It’s an ichthyosaur coracoid in shelly limestone from the lower Jurassic of Penarth.

Welsh Wizard
A bit more progress. It’s really sticky this rock and hard to see the bone so you have to keep wetting it.

FossilNerd
I don’t think I would have even saw that in the rock to initially pick it up. Good find and the prep is coming along nicely.

Good find and the prep is coming along nicely. Thanks I know what you mean. Normally the bone is red as it picks up colour from pink gypsum in the area but sometimes it just looks like shells.
Welsh Wizard
Ive had to put a layer of varnish on the bone to increase the contrast with the rock. Otherwise seems to be coming along fine.

Thanks Roger. The matrix is sticky and contains a lot of shells but the bone can be nicely preserved. 18 hours ago, Thecosmilia Trichitoma said: Nice find and Prep!
