Acanthoceras prepparation

On our Christmas fossil hunting trip Natalie found a nice Acanthoceras rothamagense in a loose boulder on the beach, All we had to do is reduce the size of the boulder to make it fit in the backpack.

A few days ago I removed a large chunk of exces matrix with a powertool.

Today I took the time to prepp the whole ammonite. this is the result after 4 to 5 hours of prepwork:

Well here we go, the prepp of the other one went rather well, except of a marcasite nodule that was inbedded in the ammonite. I discovered it halfway the preparation when my chisels sudenly went through a soft part. I removed it since it was heavily oxidised. I might fill up the hole it left leter, but for now I'll leave it be.

If it was me personally, I would leave the second one alone as is.  I've never collected an ammonite, so I was pretty surprised so much was there still judging from the first picture alone. Anyway, great preparation on both of these!

I’m indeed having a good time working on them :) but the growing collections is growing out of bounds ... we need more space for our collection <_<

Join the club.  Lots and lots of us with not enough room.

The next step in your growing collection process will to build a work/storage room in your backyard.  I laughed when a fellow collector told me this - until, I ended up having to build one :-)  Oh, one other thought, no matter how big you build it - it's not big enough!
