sharkdoctor
On December 28th I had a chance to do a little searching at Brownies. Spent most of the day in a gentle rain but found a variety of the usual suspects. More than anything, it was amazing to be on the water in the fog and rain. Super quiet and beautiful. In the shark department, I was stoked to find this 3.1" Meg (uncleaned) in situ. It keeps getting lighter, so I suspect it will be near white once done. I also came across some of these corals/sponges. One has a nice cup on it that looks to have been oriented upwards along with a barnacle, like a sponge. Any thoughts on ID? They look to have come from Zone 10:

fossilnut
Have never seen sponges from Calvert Cliffs. Quick search, I see sponges are mentioned as fauna but no pictures or other info. Have you every found sponges before? Would be most interested inseeing pictures if other have found them. That white meg is superb. Congratulations.

sixgill pete
Beautiful little meg. Can you get a closeup pic of your "sponge". I think it may be a large bryozoan colony, but a closeup could tell us for sure. 3 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022

That white meg is superb. Congratulations. Thanks! The critters pictured are relatively common at Brownies and in Zone 10. This was the first time that I took some home and prepped them. @Gizmo loaned me his awesome soda blaster outfit, so I've been putting it through its paces with a wide variety of fossil material. In this case, it really brought out a lot of detail that was hidden prior to blasting.
