Not sure what I am looking at.

Found this on my last trip to Bakersfield.

Temblor Formation, mid. Miocene

Normal finds are shark teeth, marine mammal parts, fish verts, etc. 

Basically all marine unless something washes in.

Item is 25mm wide x 8mm tall.  Any ideas?

Hmm, like a steinkern of one of the shark vert concave ends?  You might be onto something there.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I am not sure if the hole in the middle of them gets that big.

The hole in the middle is. The outside looks like the vertebra itself to me.
