Ash
Great posts, Skye. I’m looking forward to seeing the ammonites and what hopefully end up being Hoploparia done. This should make for a nice display. Oh! And still hoping to get one of those surprisingly uncommon snail things! Ash
Im looking forward to seeing them prepped.. we’re buying a display case just for this locality To add: eventually they’ll all go to a museum. Like a mini sub-collection with samples of what can be found there A little gobsmacked we have found so much to warrant needing a new display case... Ash
The fellow prepping them for us will probably need one too for his "Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe" - Saint Augustine"Those who can not see past their own nose deserve our pity more than anything else." Jesuslover340
Is this thread just going to be a two-way dialogue beteen us while you're at work? Jesuslover340
Anyways-here's a few more from yesterday's splitting efforts. A few more Torynommas and 2 more Homolopsis. We have around 35 more nodules to go through... 4 "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."-Romans 14:
Ash
Some sure are hard to see but we’re pretty certain it’s the edges of legs etc sticking out. Those were 2 nice Homolopsis yesterday. I'm wondering what it means to have started a thread with the sort of title that I did and finding this many... I think we're only questionable on maybe 3-4 as you could only see like a sliver of what looked like a piece of crab in them. So either they have nothing, or, having so little exposed, should turn out really nice. But at this point, a loss of 3-4 in the total count is negligible. We're looking at over 50 crabs total, I think. 1 "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."-Romans 14:
fossisle
I had a day on a local beach where I found 8 crab concretions in one day, I am still stoked by that. You only get a few fossil trips like that , enjoy !! Cephalopods rule!!

Ash
As an Aussie I don’t get the reference, sorry! Here is L4, possibly a nice lobster although missing a tiny part of the claw 2 "Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe" - Saint Augustine"Those who can not see past their own nose deserve our pity more than anything else." Paleoworld-101
An impressive number of specimens, the ammonites are quite nice too. They remind me of some of the ones near Richmond, around Essex Downs Station (those are Mackunda Formation though, approx. 98 Ma). Now be honest, how many dried cow craps did you pick up thinking they were rocks? "In Africa, one can't help becoming caught up in the spine-chilling excitement of the hunt. Ash
What’s that, a 7MY difference? I wonder if the species are the same? I’d love to find a big ol moonstone with a good ammo in it. That information shan’t be disclosed here... Jesuslover340
Okay-last lot, minus photos of the ammonites! We got seven more Tories from splitting what was left from this trip. Including one that was found with a piece of carapace weathered out but likely to have a decent remaining carapace and a leg or so (T53) and seven more remaining from prior trips, our total count comes to 46 Torynommas for this trip; 53 in total, including ones from prior trips. For Homolopsis, we found 8 decent ones (we hope) from this trip, plus one weathered one that is missing the side but may have the rest (H10). There is one from a prior trip. So 9 for this trip, but 10 total. The only reason we are bothering with H10 is because the Homolopsis seem a lot more rare, even if only partial. We haven't counted the handful of weathered out Torynommas posted earlier, such as our ghost Tory. The ones in count, in other words, are all those that have something to them. L4 is our second mostly-there (we hope) Hoploparia. Though difficult to tell, it does seem to have legs... 3 "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."-Romans 14:

Ash
Thanks guys, I’m keen to see H9 done too. It had a crack through it when we found it so is a little worn from water getting in there. There’s around 70-80lbs of rock we’re sending to the prepper in the US. Postage will be ouchy but ever so worth it 1 "Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe" - Saint Augustine"Those who can not see past their own nose deserve our pity more than anything else." Ash
These are the ammonites we’re sending to get prepped, we have more that were exposed on the surface that are very worn but will get pics of them later. Paleoworld-101
59 minutes ago, Ash said: Toolebuc formation I think? @Paleoworld-101 will know Speaking only about Australia here. You can find 'mid' Cretaceous ammonites in the public fossil hunting quarries near Richmond, QLD, but they are actually rather rare. They are much more common in certain rocks of the Mackunda Formation, but these are largely on private property. Also the Walsh River in northern QLD has produced a great many ammonites, really nice heteromorphs too, although the site is protected. 2 "In Africa, one can't help becoming caught up in the spine-chilling excitement of the hunt.
