Creek - Don

Recommended Posts

What is this? I found these pieces next to a creek on duck creek formation nearby Lake Texoma.    It appears to be a shell, but doesn't look like any other shells I found elsewhere.

That was it.  I was able to find North Texas fossil page and compared to what you described.

Cool find. How big are they?

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Thanks. Largest piece shown on third photo is about 1 1/2 inch wide and other pieces are about 1/2 to 1 inch.

That would make it a fairly large fish, not huge but no minnow either.

But no where compare to this monster displayed at Perot museum in Dallas.

90 million year old fish called Pentanogmius fritschi  which were 5 ft 5 inches long and used to live in Western Interior Seaway.

I think that photo was a different species, but this is the correct one.
