Here's a cool little denticle. It feels familiar, maybe acanthodian? I will have to go back through my literature when I have time.

And then this super small thing. It superficially resembles a vertebra (to me at least), but I don't know.

Denticle is chondrichthyan, vaguely "Petrodus" type, but I couldn't tell you the animal's actual genus.

Vertebra is probably haplolepid.

I find small pieces of cancellous bone often. Never anything more than little unidentifiable bits though, and very fragile.

Object on the right looks like a heavily etched holocephalan toothplate. Maybe something like Ageleodus or Sibyrhynchus. Object on the left is hard to tell; the surface of the bone looks vaguely sarcopterygian...I wonder if this might even be a fragment of dermal bone.

A tiny scale, I'm guessing palaeoniscoid based on the rhomboidal shape.

Safe bet.

Nice micro fish bits! As I am going through my black shale I find myself wishing for a “Guide to disarticulated fish parts of the Pennsylvanian”, I find so many interesting things and have very little idea what they are.

Kicking off the season with my best and most complete petalodont tooth yet. I'm labeling it as Peripristis for now but am open to other thoughts.

I had a really good hunt in the LaSalle Limestone last weekend. I still have a couple larger finds I'm finishing prep on, but I found a lot of smaller specimens that required little to no prep. All the specimens below are <1cm at the longest dimension. Haven't started trying to ID them, that will be a job for the winter unless anyone has any input.

A partial petalodont crown

A partial fish scale. I would guess palaeoniscoid.

Cladodont tooth

This is a neat one. It looks similar to a specimen @deutscheben posted a while ago, which was ID'd as a possibly undescribed hybodontiform.

Here are two new holocephalan tooth plates I'm quite happy with. I love the coloring on them.

Cochliodus? sp. (not positive on the ID for this one, as usual)

Fantastic finds Connor. The Cladodont and that Hybodontiform are really great.

Posting my Peripristis here for posterity.

This was the last find to clean up from my trips so far this year. A perfect little cladodont tooth, and I think my best so far. Barely measures 5mm.

Thanks! The rocks that came down this winter have been very productive.
