Tooth or claw? Beach find in South Carolina

I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking at but I know it's a fossil. I found it while scanning the beach for bottles in the lowcountry of South Carolina. About 6cm give or take. Looks to have been broken prior to falling off or death but I don't know for sure.

Sure it is a fossil ? :headscratch:

Looks pretty modern to me...

Unlesss I've been misguided in my Jr. Paleontology I believe it is, has the same toughness as any petrified wood. Found it because I heard it "tink" off a bottle I had moved out of the water and I thought I hit another piece of glass. Could be wrong, but it looks like it's "mineralized" on the end where a piece chipped off. Look just to the right of the furthest point of the root ending. Just enjoy wandering beaches with the pup and finding old stuff. Not nearly as smart as most of you. :)

@Harry Pristis may tell more....

It's difficult to say much about age.  Context may be the best indicator.  I might assume it is a fossil.

"Smart" is not a condition; it's an attitude. You have the right attitude. We all learn from each other. The longer we live, the less we know of all that has become known.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
