Couple of recent trips, Carboniferous plants and Cretaceous teeth

I have been slacking in my posts the past couple of trips, so I figured I would catch up.  First up are carboniferous plant fossils from McIntyre Mountain, PA:

This was my favorite piece of the day, between the colors and the variety of plants.  The photo doesn't do the colors justice.

Very nice plants!  The ones from Centralia look especially attractive, much like the plants from the (unfortunately) now-closed site near St. Clair.

And finally, got down to Ramanessin brook last weekend to enjoy the weirdness of 70 degrees in mid January in NJ.  The teeth weren't really anything special, but it was awesome being able to enjoy an unexpected day out in the warmth.  Mostly these pics were just my excuse to try out my shiny new cube from @aerogrower

Thanks Don.  Having collected both sites I can confirm they are very similar.  St Clair was about 15 minutes from me so I was one of those who were very disappointed that a single collector managed to get everyone banned just so they could try to make a few bucks.  Luckily Centralia is relatively close though the slope and the southern exposure can make collecting a lot more challenging than St Clair.

Pro Tip: bring really grippy shoes or even rappelling gear and if it's a hot summer day, bring lots and lots of water because its a black rock exposure that gets full sun all day, its like digging in a pizza oven

Nice stuff, looks like you got a Mosie tooth in there.

Why was the st Clair site closed

@will stevenson a commercial collector took heavy equipment in and tore the site up in their effort to quickly get pieces to sell.  Reading Anthracite owns the site and banned collecting in response. Now the only people allowed in are school groups with a Reading Anthracite chaperone.

That stinks. Access is such a tight rope sometimes.

Love the first few batches of plant photos in particular. They look 3D!
