Teeth Size

Ok here’s a question that’s been bugging me. 
If dinosaurs were so big why are all the teeth you see for sale so little with most being under 1”?

You see T Rex teeth and there all under a inch.

i would think they have teeth like a banana.

That's because too many people watch and believe what's in movies ..  most Dino teeth are under 3".  Most had small skulls.  T rex is the exception for banana type teeth.   Teeth sold are those most commonly found and available to the open market.

Banana sized teeth are even the least common in the mouth of a T rex.  That fruity length includes the root.  Most teeth in a rex mouth are not that big. Most rex teeth ever found are sheds where the root has been resorbed before falling out, so no root, which is easily 2/3 or 3/4 of the tooth's length.

T. rex teeth are large but larger ones rarely come on the market.

Most of the large higher end teeth will rarely hit the open market. I’ve found to get these you need to build the relationships up with private dealers who will do a sale offline. 

 

Large T. rex teeth are the exception and you can get some big ones online

I would like to add that you can find some large teeth from dinos other than T-Rex fairly easily. Spino and Carch teeth that are over 2” are not hard to find. You can find 3-4” Spino teeth any given day on the auction site and on dealer web sites.

Of course. I was using T. rex as an example as that was the tooth referenced.

 

All kemkem teeth are easily obtainable in a variety of size and condition
