Fossilgrammy
This fossil was given to my 7 year old grandson by a retired friend who said her mother had collected it in New Jersey 50+ years ago. No other information. We’d like to get some basic information about it if possible. Pictures attached. Thank you for your help.

oilshale
Rhacolepis buccalis from the Early Cretaceous (Santana Formation) of Brazil. Definitely not from New Jersey. Nice fish! 5 Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).

FossilDAWG
Welcome to the Forum. That is a pretty nice specimen, better than average for that species I think. Don
Fossilgrammy
Thank you!!! My grandson will be very happy. His 2nd grade class is studying /learning about fossils — mostly dinosaur but others as well. So my friends mother must have purchased this or received as a gift if it’s from Brazil. ? I’ll have to check again with her. thanks again.

Fossildude19
Your friend's mom may have picked it up at an antique store, flea market, or rock/gem/fossil show.
