Brondonh
I'm not sure what this is. I have my speculations but that's all they are curious to see what you all think. It was found in Venice Florida around a lot of shell, tons of whale bones, manatee, very little sharks teeth, did find a lateral megladon tooth though. It has some curious ridges on it that's got me guessing and maybe the biggest clue. Excuse the gnarly fingers, I do art and construction. digit
Yup. The depressions are worn tooth sockets (alveola). I don't know if there is enough there to be close to positive with an ID but a lot of the dolphin material that comes from South Florida seems to be identified as 'long beaked dolphin. I've seen the genus Schizodelphis tossed around but I'm way out of my league trying to take an ID down to that level. Possibly @Boesse might have a comment. Cool find. Cheers. -Ken
Boesse
Certainly an odontocete mandible, but impossible to identify when it's this incomplete. Something within Crown Odontoceti most likely.
