regainfreedom
Hi, I saw this Hadrosaur egg in a rock shop in Singapore. Are there anyways to determine whether this is a real fossil hadrosaur egg?
RJB
Looks real to me, but it also looks like it has had a bit of work done to it. RB
Nicholas
I'm going to say real with repair.
Phoenixflood
I'd say it was real. The red matrix is a good sign. I got mine not too long ago from an estate sale How much were they asking for that, if you don't mind me asking? The soul of a Fossil Hunter is one that is seeking, always. barefootgirl
Nice find:) In formal logic, a contradiction is the signal of defeat: but in the evolution of real knowledge, it marks the first step in progress toward victory. regainfreedom
I'd say it was real. The red matrix is a good sign. I got mine not too long ago from an estate sale How much were they asking for that, if you don't mind me asking? I know the owner of the shop so I could get a better price. The price is about $100. Is it worth to buy?
regainfreedom
I'm going to say real with repair. Hi RJB and Nicholas, I do not know much about fossil repairs. Which part and overall percentage of the egg do you guys think is repaired? This is also currently the only egg which I have seen that has some holes which shows some cavity. regainfreedom
It is about the same size as compared to other hadrosaur eggs.
fig rocks
I know the owner of the shop so I could get a better price. The price is about $100. Is it worth to buy? I'd say! I just sold mine for $600Cdn, but it was a fine specimen.
bahalberith
I have sometimes French sauropod eggs but it takes a lot of time because of the restoration which are necessary.

Guy Heaton
It is agreed there are many fakes coming from China but it depends on the source of the fossil. If you are certain of the provenence you can be certain the fossil is genuine. Our own contacts in China are reputable and suppliers of ours for many years. Take a look at our own Hadrosaur (duck - billed dinosaur) eggs at www.finefossils.com under the 'dinosaur' section.
Ophiura
Hi, I saw this Hadrosaur egg in a rock shop in Singapore. Are there anyways to determine whether this is a real fossil hadrosaur egg? It seems very fake to me and the price prooves it. You don't see any egg shell structure on in. The color is wrong, and the way that the "egg shell" is breaking is a distinct proof that is fake. Ophiura
I'd say it was real. The red matrix is a good sign. I got mine not too long ago from an estate sale How much were they asking for that, if you don't mind me asking? This one is a real one, or at least some egg shells glued to a red matrix. But seems to be a real egg. Last year i saw someone selling eggs made with small pieces of real egg shells glued to a red matrix. Of course the pieces didn't fall on a normal breaking structure so it was easy to spot that was fake.
Ophiura
I have sometimes French sauropod eggs but it takes a lot of time because of the restoration which are necessary. This is a good photo to see the eggs texture and the way it breaks.
Plantguy
I offer an non-expert post here, but it doesnt look alot like the one I got from EONS awhile back. Its got the reddish colored matrix, but certainly a different type and level of preservation if its real. Here are a couple shots of mine and one view showing the egg shell detail that Ophiura has commented on ...One thing that struck me when I got mine---its very very heavy for its size... about 7 lbs....Regards, Chris Edited November 21, 2009 by Plantguy

Redlichia
Hi, I saw this Hadrosaur egg in a rock shop in Singapore. Are there anyways to determine whether this is a real fossil hadrosaur egg? PICT0012.jpg PICT0013.jpg PICT0017.jpg PICT0018.jpg PICT0019.jpg Hi Regain, I hope you're okay! I'm a little in delay for this post.... The your egg is original no problem, is rough a little bit glued and need a preparation but is ok and is from another zone, there are different zones similar with the eggs. ->>>>> <
