Troodon
I struck gold today and the show is about two days away from really starting. Most of the domestic dealers are still closed but low budget sellers do show up early to sell to most of the online dealers everyone buys from. They rent a room in a house or hotel and set up like you see in this photo. Little overhead and lots of profit. Buying before the show opens is where you find some super items. Two raptor hand claws are now in my collection Top one most likely Acheroraptor from the Hell Creek and the bottom one super rare from the Judith River Fm possibly Dromaeosaurid Julieraptor. Probably the coolest piece I will pick up at the show is this Tyrannosaurid phalanx from the Hell Creek. Super are hand bones to begin with but the pathology is phenomenal Edit confirmed its T rex hand bone Digit II phalanx 1 Picked up a few items from Drumheller, all with dispositions here is a partial hadrosaurid jaw section, maxilla Edit Cautionary note.....please be careful in what you are buying especially if you are attending the show.. I was at a couple of dealers in the Days Inn and dinosaur identifications were very troublesome... dont buy impulsively verify ID's

Nice purchase absolutely beautiful claws and something different with that freaky bone. I only have my phone to look at the post so images are small but I also liked the hadrosaur claw on the bed. cheers Bobby

Allosaurus
For the lower budget sellers, how do you find them? Do they put up signs? Do you sort of wander looking for rooms open with people and fossils for sale?

Do you sort of wander looking for rooms open with people and fossils for sale? There are lots of venues throughout the show and your best bet is to go to the ones you're interested in. At each of these venues you will find high and lower priced items but its best done by going from room to room if its a motel. If its a tent just wander through them. Show guides are available to tell you where all the venues are and who's in them. Let me add I'm only posting photos high end material but there is lots of budget material.
Allosaurus
So in general, is there a recommended time to attend? I may be able to go next year or in a couple years, but it would only be for a week maximum. My interests are pretty varied from just about everything invertebrate to vertebrate. Joe_17
And do specific dealers specialize in certain time periods ?

The best time to go is the first week to the venues I describe in this post. However there are some changes expected for 2021 so will have to see what changes occur. Do not go the last week lots of dealers leave early. It

Well you have dealers that primarily focus on shark teeth, bugs, meteorites, dinosaurs, amber or where they collect like White River Fm, Green River, Kem Kem, North sea, so its a mixed bag. What ever makes money...

Are most vendors willing to ship items to you if you purchase at the show? And are there any particular precautions one can take to protect one's fossils while at the show? I know theft seems to be an unfortunate commonality, and I'd hate to have some of my fossils stolen (not that I'd be buying anything of great value, but I'd hate for anything to be lost regardless). No idea on shipments, most are cash and carry but i never tried but would not count on it. When I traveled to the show I left my fossils in the hotel room in inconspicuous spots. Others that travel to the shows can comment on what they do. The only thefts you hear about are directly from dealer rooms or trailors. I never leave anything in cars. Lots of dealers will hold your items and you can pick them up at the end of the day. You can box and ship your items home, there are places that sell boxes and packing material one I know is located at the THCC venue.
