Nodules on Fossilized Bone

What are the round nodules on this piece of fossilized bone?

I suspect there is some lichen on the top of bone on photo 2.

These run in size from 1mm to 5mm.

Any ideas?

Those are pyrite mineral.  I sometimes find marine fossils and carbonized wood covered with pyrite mineral in them.

I see pyrite and iron rich concretions, but I seriously doubt that's bone.

I'll cut it open this weekend and take a little look inside.

A very interesting specimen.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Your doubt was well founded.  Upon taking a slice out of this rock with a saw, it appears to consist of opaque black obsidian or something very similar.  That's what I get for assuming something without looking first.
